Nigeria’s Culinary Queen, Hilda Baci, Sets New Guinness World Record for Largest Jollof Rice Dish

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigerian culinary sensation, Chef Hilda Baci, has done it again, securing a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest pot of jollof rice ever cooked. The monumental dish, a proud celebration of Nigerian cuisine, was officially confirmed to weigh an astonishing 8,780kg. This latest achievement solidifies Baci’s status as a global culinary icon and brings the world’s attention back to Nigeria’s rich food culture.

The record-breaking feast was a massive undertaking, requiring a custom-made, 23,000-liter pot crafted by a team of 300 people over two months. The recipe for the colossal jollof rice includes the following: 4,000kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 600kg of onions and 168kg of goat meat.

Assisted by a team of 10 chefs, Baci stirred the enormous pot for nine hours, a testament to her endurance and dedication. The event was a major spectacle in Lagos, drawing thousands of supporters who came to witness the historic moment.

The record attempt was not without its challenges. The custom-built pot, designed for the task, buckled twice during its crucial weigh-in. In a dramatic moment, one of its legs gave way while being hoisted by a crane. However, the team’s meticulous preparation paid off, and not a single grain of jollof rice was spilled.

After successfully completing the cook, Baci’s team submitted video evidence to GWR for official verification. Upon receiving the good news, she took to social media to dedicate the victory to her country. “This moment isn’t just mine… it belongs to all of us,” she wrote, emphasizing that the record was a product of “unity, love, and collective strength.”

This new world record follows Baci’s previous GWR for the longest cooking marathon in 2023. While that record has since been broken, her latest triumph with the largest jollof rice dish reaffirms her commitment to showcasing Nigerian culinary traditions on a global stage. The event not only celebrated Baci’s skill but also shone a global spotlight on jollof rice, a beloved West African staple.

In a final act of community spirit, the massive jollof rice dish was portioned and distributed to the thousands of people in attendance, allowing them to share in the historic achievement and savor the taste of a world-record meal. This act of sharing perfectly encapsulated the communal and celebratory spirit that Baci and her team championed throughout the entire process.
