Description

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a mandatory one-year service program for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30. Established in 1973 after the Nigerian Civil War, its primary goal is to foster national unity, integration, and development.

Participants, known as “corps members,” are deployed to states other than their state of origin to work in different sectors, such as education, healthcare, and agriculture. The program begins with a three-week orientation camp for paramilitary training and skills acquisition, followed by an eleven-month posting to a Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and one day a week dedicated to Community Development Service (CDS).

Upon successful completion of the service year, participants receive a certificate of completion, which is a prerequisite for employment in many governmental and private organizations in Nigeria.
