Description
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is a federal law enforcement agency in Nigeria, established by Decree Number 48 of 1989. Operating under the Federal Ministry of Justice, its primary mandate is to combat drug trafficking, cultivation, production, and abuse across the country.
The NDLEA’s responsibilities include intercepting illicit drug consignments at airports, seaports, and border crossings, dismantling drug syndicates, destroying drug farms, and prosecuting offenders. Beyond enforcement, the agency also focuses on drug demand reduction through public awareness campaigns (like “War Against Drug Abuse – WADA”), providing psychosocial support, counseling, and rehabilitation services for individuals affected by substance abuse. It collaborates with international partners to strengthen global anti-drug efforts. The NDLEA is headquartered in Abuja.
