History:

Originally conceived in the mid-1970s by the old Kaduna State Government as a state hospital to provide specialist medical facilities in Katsina and Daura Emirates, the hospital was taken over by the newly created Katsina State in 1987 for completion. Its mandate was to provide adequate healthcare services, serve as a center for research, and train health personnel. On October 29, 1996, the Federal Government of Nigeria took over the hospital from the Katsina State Government, converting it from a Federal Medical Centre to a full-fledged Federal Teaching Hospital. Over the years, FTHK has seen significant development in terms of manpower, infrastructure, and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, positioning it as a leading institution for health services in Nigeria.
