Federal Ministry of Defence

The Federal Ministry of Defence is the government body responsible for the national defence and security of Nigeria. Established to formulate and execute defence policy, the Ministry plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and promoting regional and global peace and stability.

Through its various departments and agencies, including the Nigerian Armed Forces (comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force), the Ministry oversees military operations, personnel welfare, procurement of defence equipment, and strategic planning. It is committed to building a professional, well-equipped, and highly motivated military capable of addressing contemporary security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, while also participating in international peacekeeping efforts. The Ministry works to ensure the effective deployment and management of resources to maintain a robust and responsive defence infrastructure for the protection of all Nigerian citizens.
