Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport Minna Set to Begin Operations in April 2025

Minna, Niger State – In a significant development for air transport in North Central Nigeria, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna will commence operations by April 2025. The governor made this announcement during a courtesy visit by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth Development; and Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo, CEO of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority, at the Government House in Minna.

Governor Bago revealed that the airport will initially operate daily commercial flights between Lagos and Minna, with plans to expand services to Kano by June 2025. He also disclosed that ten aircraft, including two cargo planes, will be stationed at the airport. The cargo planes are specifically designated for shipping goods to Brazil and Saudi Arabia, marking a significant boost to international trade and economic activities in the region.

Describing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport as a “first-of-its-kind” project in Nigeria, Governor Bago highlighted its state-of-the-art Cargo and Hajj terminals as landmark initiatives. These facilities are expected to enhance the livelihoods of citizens by creating job opportunities, improving access to international markets, and facilitating smoother Hajj operations for pilgrims.

The airport is poised to become a key hub for both domestic and international travel, with plans for Overland Airways to operate routes such as Minna to Abuja and back, as well as Minna to Lagos and back. This development is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost economic activities in Niger State and its neighboring regions.

Governor Bago expressed optimism that the airport will not only transform the state’s economy but also position Niger State as a major player in Nigeria’s aviation sector. He thanked the federal government and all stakeholders for their support in bringing the project to fruition.

As the April 2025 launch date approaches, residents and businesses in Minna and beyond are eagerly anticipating the economic and social benefits that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport is expected to bring.
