Description

The John Randle Centre for Yorùbá Culture & History is a modern cultural and recreational center located in the Onikan area of Lagos, Nigeria. It’s a key part of the Lagos State government’s urban regeneration project, designed to be a premier tourist destination and a vibrant hub for celebrating Yoruba heritage.
The center’s striking architecture, inspired by traditional Yoruba design, houses a state-of-the-art museum, a public square, and an outdoor theatre. The main exhibition gallery is a 1,000-square-meter space that takes visitors on an immersive journey through Yoruba history, mythology, art, and fashion.

More than a static museum, the center uses modern technology, like audio-visual displays and interactive exhibits, to tell the stories of Yoruba culture. Visitors can explore the genealogy of the Yoruba people, learn about the different Orishas (deities), and see displays of traditional textiles, masquerades, and artifacts. There are also sections dedicated to iconic Yoruba figures in music, art, and politics, including the legendary Fela Kuti. The center also features a library, multi-purpose halls, and a restaurant, making it a comprehensive destination for both education and entertainment.
