The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has made a major stride in modernizing its passport application process, announcing the launch of its official mobile app on the Apple App Store. This development is particularly welcome news for Nigerians in the diaspora, who can now renew their international passports with unprecedented ease and convenience from their iPhones.
In a statement on its official X account, the NIS declared, “For Nigerians in diaspora wishing to renew their international passports comfortably from their Apple devices, we are one step closer to you.” The announcement highlighted the app’s ability to initiate a “contactless passport application journey,” allowing users to complete the process directly from their smartphones.
The NIS Mobile app, which is now live, streamlines the renewal process by offering a secure and efficient way to handle a significant portion of the application. To begin, eligible users simply need to open the Apple App Store on their iOS device, search for “NIS Mobile,” and download the app. From there, they can follow the in-app instructions to seamlessly renew their international passport.
However, the service is currently limited to specific applicants. To be eligible, users must meet the following criteria:
- Their current passport must not have more than six months remaining until its expiration date.
- The application must be for the re-issuance of an existing passport. The app does not support applications involving data corrections, lost passports, or other exceptional cases.
- The service is exclusively available for individuals aged 18 to 60.
The Nigeria Immigration Service is encouraging all eligible applicants to take advantage of this new, user-friendly platform. The app’s availability on the Apple Store marks a significant step towards a more accessible and efficient passport renewal system, bringing the service directly to the fingertips of Nigerians around the globe.
