Energy Commission of Nigeria

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) is the apex government organ with the statutory mandate for the strategic planning and coordination of national policies in the field of energy in all its ramifications. Established by Act No. 62 of 1979 (as amended by Acts No. 32 of 1988 and No. 19 of 1989), ECN is committed to ensuring adequate, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy supply for Nigeria’s economic and socio-political development.

Key responsibilities of the ECN include:

• International Collaboration: Liaising with international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on energy matters.
• Capacity Building: Promoting training and manpower development within the energy sector.
• Promoting Diversification: Encouraging the development and optimal utilization of all energy resources, including new and alternative sources like solar and wind energy, and fostering energy efficiency.
