The Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) is the principal government body in Nigeria responsible for formulating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating policies and programs that empower and develop Nigerian youth. Established to centralize efforts in youth affairs, the Ministry plays a crucial role in harnessing the potential of the nation’s vibrant youth population for national development.

A Nigeria with empowered and successful youth in all fields of life, and Nigerian youth that are adequately supported to excel in all endeavors.

Our Mission:

To provide a sustainable framework for the formulation and implementation of policies, programs, and other initiatives which promote and enhance youth development in collaboration with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities and Initiatives:

  • National Youth Policy: Formulating, monitoring, and reviewing the National Youth Policy to address the evolving needs and aspirations of Nigerian youth.
  • Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship: Implementing programs like the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) to provide financial support and training for young entrepreneurs and small business owners.
  • Skills Acquisition & Vocational Training: Overseeing initiatives such as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program and establishing skill acquisition centers to equip youth with practical skills for self-employment and job creation.
  • Youth Engagement & Participation: Creating opportunities for youth involvement in decision-making processes, promoting civic engagement, and fostering leadership skills.9
  • Social & Personal Development: Promoting a conducive environment for the social, mental, emotional, and physical development of youth, including programs against drug abuse, cultism, and other social vices.
  • Data & Monitoring: Developing digital platforms like the Youth Initiatives Dashboard (YID) to provide real-time data on youth-related programs, enhance transparency, and ensure effective delivery.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with various stakeholders, including other government ministries, development partners, NGOs, and the private sector, to achieve comprehensive youth development.

  • Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC)
  • And various departments focusing on Youth Development, Enterprise Development and Promotion, and Network & Social Mobilization.
